Finally, An 8-Day Cleanse That Doesn’t Damage Your Insides!

16 Apr

It was about that time to start another cleanse. I normally promote the 21 Day Purification Program from Standard Process, which I do every year, but this time around I wanted to offer my patients another alternative cleanse that has fewer days and is just as effective. This program is known as the “8-Day Colon Cleansing Detox Program with Liver / Gallbladder Flush.

I’ve always been a strong supporter of colon hydrotherapy in my practice and notice that my patients respond well to my treatment program when colon hydrotherapy is added to their regimen.  They get better faster and stay well for longer periods of time.

I decided to contact my colon hydro therapist, Jeanne Martin, from www.watersoflifecleansing.com  , to walk me through her detox program. I’ve been sending my patients to Jeanne for years and she has always told me that I should do her 8-Day Colon Cleansing Detox Program. I’ve been reluctant in the past because I didn’t like short-term, no-eating cleansing programs. I felt they were ineffective and most of all, dangerous, (i.e. “master cleanse”, “fruit flushing”, etc.), so I decided to do more research and found that her program eased some of my concerns. There are many programs out there that not only lack the nutrients to keep the body from functioning optimally, but are too invasive for the body to handle. Rest assured, this is not one of them!

On the 8-Day Colon Cleansing Detox Program with Liver / Gallbladder Flush no food is ingested, but the supplements, from Vit-Ra-Tox, provide the necessary nutrients during the program.

The Vit-Ra-Tox supplement information can be found here:

The 8 Day program information could be found on her website here:

Now, I will admit, this program is not easy and it takes a high level of commitment. Being that you’re not eating any food, receiving daily colonics, and trying to incorporate the shake and supplement regimen into your busy schedules, this can be quite challenging. As for myself, my vices (coffee and alcohol) were easy to keep under control, but the no food allowed part of the program was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. However, don’t let this scare you; nothing in life with high value is ever easy and this is one of them. Trust me, in the end, it will be worth it!

The plan consists of drinking a shake five times a day every few hours of water (8 oz.), bentonite clay mixture from Vit-A-Tox (1 oz.), and about an ounce of fresh juice, (I used raw apple juice).

What is “bentonite” you ask? Bentonite, also known as Montmorillonite Clay, has been used by indigenous people throughout history to help with upset stomachs and overall good health. It’s basically a volcanic ash that is capable of absorbing 2000 times its weight in fluid. By ingesting small amounts, it pretty much soaks up any fluid waste (toxins, poisons, bacteria, etc.) in the digestive tract and sends it out through normal evacuation. Imagine a giant sponge that only soaks up or sticks to what shouldn’t be in your digestive tract, working its way through and eventually taking all that waste and toxicity with it. The shake is also mixed with psyllium husk that gently scrubs the mucosal lining of the digestive tract and added absorption to facilitate evacuation.

In between the shakes are a multitude of supplements that help supply the body with all your basic vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, (life-sustaining chemicals from plants), essential fats, a betaine detoxifier, (fat metabolism & blood detoxification), enzymes and probiotics.  The supplements are from a whole food source to maximize potency and absorption. This is one of the best and safest ways to receive your proper nutrients while not ingesting food.

Along with taking the shakes and supplementation, you’re required to receive daily colon hydrotherapy sessions. For those that have never had one, I highly recommend them. It may seem gross, weird, or “un-natural,” but trust me, it isn’t. Colon hydrotherapy has been around since the ancient Egyptians and Greeks labeled it “auto-intoxication.” They felt that food would rot inside our colon and needed to be cleared out before it caused sickness. For more information on colon hydrotherapy, please contact Jeanne Martin here: www.watersoflifecleansing.com .

The final day is the Liver Cleanse/ Gallbladder Flush portion of the program. The liver cleanse is a 64 oz. juice mixture of kale, parsley, spinach, celery, ginger root, lemon and apple. This is to be taken throughout the day every few hours until gone. The gallbladder flush is a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice that is taken right before bed. This mixture will help flush any calcified stones and toxicity in the gallbladder and send it through the digestive system and out of the body.

I found this program to be extremely effective. After eight days I lost close to 15 lbs., I sleep more soundly and wake up refreshed, my skin feels softer, digestion has improved and I think more clearly.

Speaking as a health care practitioner and someone with personal experience with this detox, I highly recommend the 8-Day Colon Cleansing Detox Program with Liver / Gallbladder Flush. Whether you want to improve your digestion, get better sleep or just improve your overall health, this cleanse is a great starting point to get you there quickly and safely.

How to Get “The Boss” of All Antioxidants (Hint: It’s Not in Food)

23 Feb

If you were ask most people who are into eating healthy to make a list of antioxidants, most would say vitamins C, A and E as well as beta carotene. However, if you asked them to name the most powerful antioxidant, they most likely wouldn’t know. It’s understandable because this particular antioxidant can not be found in food, is destroyed easily in the digestive track so supplementation is pretty much worthless, and most doctor’s are unaware of it.

I’m talking about “The Boss” of all antioxidants and its name is glutathione. If a gold fish represented the common antioxidant, a shark would be glutathione! Not only is it a powerful antioxidant, but it also recycles other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, that have been damaged by free radicals.

Today, many health-minded people know or are aware of the benefits of body detoxification. Increasing your glutathione output is how the body does it.

Because glutathione isn’t found in food, how do we acquire this amazing molecule? Well, fortunately, our bodies make it. The downside is that poor diet, toxins, pollution, medications, radiation, and stress can deplete it severely. Any individual battling a chronic illness, such as cancer, any autoimmune disorder, autism, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or heart disease, suffers from a decrease in glutathione. This is why the treatment, recovery and prevention of most of these illnesses starts with glutathione.

Glutathione also is a major player in detoxifying the body. Glutathione actually binds to toxins and pollutants rendering them harmless while the body naturally sends it on out through the digestive track. Lastly, optimal levels of glutathione have been shown to shift body metabolism from a fat storage producer to a muscle developer. This can have a major impact on muscle development, decreased muscle damage, increased strength and endurance, and decreased recovery time.

Here is what you can do to keep your glutathione levels high.

First step is through diet. However, because we can’t ingest glutathione directly — stomach acid destroys it — we need to eat foods that help our bodies stimulate it. Here is what I recommend to get those levels up!

1)      1) Various organ and red meat!

a.       Contrary to popular belief that red meat is bad for you, nothing could be further from the truth. When it comes to regenerating glutathione, these two bad boys are king! Both have a high amount of another powerful antioxidant called Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), which is an essential fatty acid that helps regenerate glutathione.

2)      2) Whey protein.

a.       This is a great glutathione precursor. You must buy one that is labeled “bio-active” or “bio-available,” which does not contain denatured proteins. A non-pasteurized form should be fine. Contact me, and I can recommend a good one.

3)      3) Uncooked fruits and vegetables.

a.       Sulfur-rich foods are best, such as garlic, onions, cruciferous foods (broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts), asparagus and spinach.

b.      Watermelon

c.       Walnuts

4)      4) Milk Thistle (Silymarin is a component).

a.       Helps prevent glutathione depletion

5)      5) Raw milk products, uncooked meat and eggs (runny yolks preferred).

Outside the diet realm, you can also increase your activity to increase glutathione. Light to moderate activity, such as walking, jogging and doing various activities three to four days a week for 20-30 minutes can boost the immune system and help your body to detoxify itself.

Avoiding This Protein Can Have a Huge Impact on Your Health!

28 Jun

As a long-term health care practitioner, I do my best to make people aware of all the possible hidden dangers we’re exposed to in the foods we eat. Without question, one of the substances that top’s the list is gluten.

Gluten is a “garbage” protein found in grains like wheat, barley, and rye that can have detrimental effects on the body. It is known that people with Celiac Disease can not handle gluten, which can cause a serious autoimmune reaction in the small intestine making it harder for the body to absorb nutrients. What most people (including medical doctors) don’t realize is that gluten can be detrimental to people without celiac disease as well. Since Celiac disease is hard to diagnose, it often goes unnoticed allowing the disease to manifest and increase the risk of developing other diseases like:  autoimmune disorders, osteoporosis, neurologic problems, Type 2 diabetes, and even cancer. Some of the symptoms associated with gluten can include: fatigue, digestive issues (constipation, diarrhea, etc.), skin problems, mood swings, and weight gain.

Foods that contain gluten are as follows:

  • Wheat
  • Barley
  • Rye
  • Soy Sauce
  • Foods that say “gluten-free” – due to cross contamination.
  • Processed foods – soups, candies, cold cuts, non-fat or fat free foods.
    • Foods that have Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP), Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP), and Natural Flavorings in the list of ingredients.

Grains that are naturally gluten-free are as follows:

  • Oats
  • Millet
  • Buckwheat
  • Quinoa
  • Sorghum
  • Flax seed
  • Rice

With the various symptoms I’ve mentioned above, if you’re experiencing other symptoms that don’t seem to go away using conventional methods, try taking gluten out of your diet. Since gluten makes it harder for your body to absorb nutrients from food, you never know if this may be the problem. There are some things in life that can create enormous benefits by doing minimal effort and simply avoiding gluten is one of them.
